I was so thrilled when the cooler temps this Spring finally gave way to the promise of Summer. As usual, I overdid it a little bit, imagining the days and evenings my family would enjoy outdoors. We sealed the deck, set up the gazebo, and spent way too much money on flowers. Flowers are beautiful!! But, when they are in pots in full sun on the back deck, they require a lot of TLC. I had an outdoor routine every morning that culminated in watering the plants. No problem! It would be a beautiful summer.
…And then it got hot. Really hot. The kind of hot that fogs up my glasses and makes me irritable. I didn’t want to be outside. …And my routines changed due to some unforeseen circumstances. …And I got pretty busy… The flowers hung in there for a while. But after neglect increased and we were gone from home, the damage was done. The hanging baskets didn’t survive. Some of the pots on the deck were in critical condition. The perennials marched stubbornly on, declaring their independence.
I realized that this was a great metaphor for life. So many times we start off great, but get derailed by a change in circumstances. How many times have you had to restart a diet, exercise regimen, financial plan, DIY project, or other undertaking because you got off track?
Coaching can help! With someone in your corner, helping you set goals and priorities, you can accomplish all of those things you’ve been meaning to do, and set in motion the actions that will lead you to the life you want. It shouldn’t be this hard. It doesn’t have to be.
