It takes courage to get out of the boat. It looks foolish to anyone watching, to get out of the boat. Especially if your plan is to get out of the boat and walk across the water. Many choose to stay in the boat. That makes a lot more sense. It’s much easier to plan your outing when you stay in the boat. You can pack things, and plan things when you stay in the boat. When you get out of the boat, you can’t plan for your walk across the water; that’s pretty much beyond your control. It requires a lot of faith and trust.
Those who stay in the boat will probably have a great time, that was their plan after all. Afterwards, they will reminisce about their time together in the boat, probably sharing some laughs and good memories. They may even have pictures commemorating some of the fun they had in the boat.
The one that steps out of the boat, may or may not make it across the water. Maybe she, does. Maybe he gets part of the way. Maybe, she doesn’t get three feet away. But he will never be the same again! Summoning the courage to step out of the boat and onto the water, in and of itself will change you. But actually stepping out on that water - even if it’s only for a few shaky steps - will change everything.
What power does ‘impossible’ hold over one who has overcome it? Who takes ‘no’ for an answer after walking on water? Who is defined by limits, and resources, and possibilities after getting out of the boat? Kinda makes you want to get out of the boat, doesn’t it?
You can step out of the boat. You don’t have to do it by yourself. What are you dreaming right now? What would life look like in one year if you got out of the boat? Three years from now? Why not go for it?
